This lullaby rendition of Rockabye Baby is a gentle, soothing children's song, not to be confused with the Rockabye Baby Lullaby Renditions that feature rock lullabies. Our lullabies are intended for relaxation and help with putting the little ones into a state of contented sleep. This particular lullaby is quite old, dating back to about 1765.

Rockabye Baby Lullaby has a couple sets of commonly heard lyrics: the most common is the one that has the cradle making a journey from the tree to the ground, and may have been connected with political intrigue surrounding William of Orange and others in the English revolution of 1688 in which King James II was deposed.
Alternately, it has been propounded that the song had its roots in a large English family of that time that lived in a tree and hollowed out a large bough for the baby to sleep in. At any rate, the alternate lyric has the child safe and sound, which is just fine with us, and sings thusly, according to Wikipedia and other sources:
Rock-a-bye, baby, thy cradle is green
Father's a nobleman, mother's a queen
And Betty's a lady and wears a gold ring
And Johnny's a drummer and drums for the king
The original words that most of us remember:
Rockabye Baby in the treetops
When the wind blows
The cradle will rock
When the bough breaks
The cradle will fall
Down will come baby
Cradle and all.
