Immediate download of All Through The Night in a variety of formats. Pleasant dreams all through the night...

"All Through The Night" is often considered a Christmas Song, and has found a home on many recording artists' Christmas albums - Olivia Newton-John, Michael McDonald (formerly of the Doobie Brothers), James Galway, Perry Como, the Irish Rovers, Nancy Wilson, Jim Brickman, and Kristopher Kringle (it's true, kids...he's "real", and there is an album he's recorded...but sadly, the music is of quite poor quality, almost like some guy was pretending to be Santa to sell Christmas music..but I digress).

about

All Through The Night is a traditional Welsh folksong favored by Welsh male choirs. The English lyrics are not translated but were rewritten by Sir Harold Boulton, in 1884.

Here's some interesting trivia about "All Through The Night" -

The hymn "Go My Children With My Blessing" uses the melody from All Through The Night;

"A Child's Christmas In Wales", a family film, features the song, albeit in English, near the end of the story.

The Nicholas Cage film "Knowing" finds his wife (in the film) singing the song to their child.

lyrics

All Through The Night Lyrics:

Sleep my child and peace attend thee
All through the night
Guardian angels God will send thee
All through the night

Soft the drowsy hours are creeping
Hill and vale in slumber sleeping
Love alone it's watch is keeping
All through the night

from Wikipedia, there is an alternate second verse:

Angels watching ever round thee
All through the night
In thy slumbers close surround thee
All through the night
They will of all fears disarm thee
No forebodings should alarm thee
They will let no peril harm thee
All through the night

The original Welsh lyric was composed by John Ceiriog Hughes, and has been translated into dozens of languages, with so many variations and adaptations it would take a music linguist a lifetime to sort them all out...but they all say "relax... breathe...exhale.... let go of this day, and let your pleasant slumber prepare you for the day to come."
